Governance Professionals' Induction and Mentoring Programme (Code: C1049)

The induction programme will seek to provide standardisation to the governance professional's role, by equipping participants with guidance on what their role is and what the role of governance is, what is expected of them and how this role should develop over a period of time. It will allow for sharing best practice and learning from others more experienced in the sector to ensure that this role, which can feel isolated, benefits from being part of a wider community. The induction will recognise the variety of backgrounds and skills that new governance professionals bring to the role.

Pricing options

The programme costs £250 and includes 2.5 days of online training and four mentoring sessions.

Who is this for?

This programme is for Governance Professionals who have been in the role for 18 months or less, as well as those supporting the governance team.

For Governance Professionals with more experience, the intermediate programme 'The Technical aspects of being a Governance Professional' may be more beneficial.

Training aim

The induction programme will seek to provide standardisation to the governance professional's role, by equipping participants with guidance on what their role is and what the role of governance is, what is expected of them and how this role should develop over a period of time. It will allow for sharing best practice and learning from others more experienced in the sector to ensure that this role, which can feel isolated, benefits from being part of a wider community. It will enable governance professionals to become more confident and effective in their role.

Outcomes

You will have the knowledge and confidence to effectively carry out this critical role.

The course will provide governance professionals with clarity of the role within a college.

Governance professionals will gain up to date knowledge to carry out their roles effectively, covering the following themes of activity:

  • Theme 1 - The FE Landscape
  • Theme 2 - Compliance - Legal frameworks
  • Theme 3 - The Role of the Governance Professional in the Board and College
  • Theme 4 - The Role of the Governance Professional in Board Behaviours
  • Theme 5 - Recruitment of Senior Post holders, Governor recruitment and elections and staff and student governors
  • Theme 6 - Equality and Diversity - Leadership, recruitment and selection process, including planning and structuring an interview

The programme will establish a support network and ensure best practice-sharing habits are created.

Length

The programme will take place over 2.5 days virtual training followed by four sessions of mentoring with an experienced Governance Professional.

There will be two cohorts available for this programme:

Cohort 1 - 10, 11 and 12 February 2021

Cohort 2 - 24, 25 February and 1 March 2021

The mentoring sessions will take place virtually throughout February, March and April.

Entry Requirements

This programme is for Governance Professionals working in the further education sector who have been in the role for 18 months or less, as well as those supporting the governance team.

For Governance Professionals with more experience, the intermediate programme 'The Technical aspects of being a Governance Professional' may be more beneficial.
