Who is this for?

WLN is all about achieving intersectional gender equality: increasing the diversity of leaders and leadership in FE, redefining leadership, changing our workplaces and amplifying diverse women's voices.

We've designed #WUp3 for all kinds of women in all kinds of FE, skills, and lifelong learning, including:

  • Women in middle management
  • Women leading specialisms or activism on specific issues
  • Women working in training and development, research, writing or thought leadership.

WLN and the ETF have designed Women Up 3 specifically designed for you if:

  • You want to increase your understanding of how we can achieve intersectional race and gender equality
  • You are thinking about or ready to define and own your talents and leadership.
  • You want to reduce inequalities in FE leadership and chaange the leadership status quo.

Training aim

Intersectional gender equality is at the heart of everything we do at WLN.  The test of our training is the spaces we create for others to lead. seek, give and value constructive feedback as an opportunity for two-way learning. We work hard to create brave learning spaces based on a culture of respectful communication and behaviour.

Through an intersectional equalities lens our diverse team of facilitators and guest speakers, this course will enable and empower you to:

  • Recognise and overcome systemic, institutional, and internalised gendered barriers that stop us from aspiring to and taking the next step in applying for and gaining senior management and leadership opportunities.
  • Become advocates and leaders of positive change, redefining leadership and changing our places of learning and working across the sector.
  • Join a pro-active national network of WLN and Women UP alumnae who support each other and sustain and grow intersectional gender equality.

We've designed #WUp3 for:

  • Inspiration and motivation.
  • Being you is enough - realise your vision for leadership by developing confidence and banishing any self-doubt.
  • Get into the club - understand how senior leadership recruitment and selection processes work. Why recruitment agencies want to connect with you as future talent in the sector and how to make them work for you.
  • You are not alone - why you need to build a peer support network and to think about getting coaching and mentoring now - not later.
  • How you see yourself and others see you as a leader - how to get others to see past their biases and recognise your talent and potential for what it is and see you as a sector leader.
  • Claim your future - understand your choices and decisions to work out your continuous professional development. What's the direction you want to go in, and what will you do about it?

5 sessions on a Tuesday, from 09.30-12 noon, over 8 weeks, starting on 7 December 2021 and ending on 25 January 2022. You need to attend and participate in all 5 sessions - reflecting core values in women's activism-solidarity with others and paying back by giving as well as taking.

  • Tuesday 7 December 2021: Being you and realising your leadership vision
  • Tuesday 14 December 2021: Creating your support network and peer mentoring
  • Tuesday 11 January 2022: How senior leadership selection processes and recruitment agencies work and how to make them work for you
  • Tuesday 18 January 2022: Getting others to see you as a leader
  • Tuesday 25 January 2022: Making your mark and claiming your future
