This course is for teachers and other practitioners delivering Functional Skills maths in the Further Education and Training sector. It may also be helpful for teaching assistants and practitioners supporting learners on vocational and foundation programmes.

To help you support maths learners through Entry level 3 to Level 2 by considering common mistakes and misconceptions, identify the skills critical to learner progress and develop teaching and learning strategies to support learner achievement in maths.

Outcomes

On this course, you will:

  • examine the Entry level 3, Level 1 and Level 2 Functional Skills specifications
  • consider the errors, misconceptions, and difficulties many learners face when tackling maths
  • discuss a range of research-informed teaching approaches thought to be effective for maths learning
  • share a range of maths learning activities and consider how to adapt one for a different level or context.
