Chairs' Mentoring Programme (Code: C1302)
ETF has been commissioned by the Department for Education (DfE) to develop a mentoring programme for Chairs. These mentoring sessions will complement the ongoing Chairs' Leadership Programme, Chairs' Network Events, and the existing coaching offer. Participants will be offered an opportunity to be mentored by industry experts Andrew Baird or Sandra Prail.
Who is this for?
Further Education and 6th Form Colleges' Chairs of Boards.
Andrew Baird works with Chairs and governing bodies across the sector, mentoring and coaching new and experienced Chairs, particularly those whose colleges are in intervention. He has been drafted in by the FEC team to Chair both Hadlow and Brooklands colleges during particularly difficult periods. Andrew is also currently Treasurer and a Trustee of the Lifetrain Trust, and has previously served as a school governor for 12 years, including two 3-year terms as Chairman.
Sandra Prail works with Chairs and governing bodies across the sector, mentoring and coaching new and experienced Chairs, particularly those whose colleges are in intervention. Sandra is a highly experienced, self-motivated professional providing top quality support, capacity and consultancy, coaching and training. Sandra is currently Chair of Governors at Brighton Hove and Sussex Sixth Form College, Premises Group Chair, sitting on Remuneration, Resources, Search & Governance committees.
To provide an opportunity for Chairs to address issues of (but not limited to):

- Personal development
- Emotional support
Chairs will have knowledge and confidence to:
- Effectively carry out their role
- Grow, develop and reach their full potential
- Understand themselves better, improve their mindset, and equip them with the skills to handle future challenges and situations they face as Chairs of Boards in FE & Skills institutions.
Up to four one-hour sessions per participant over a period of six months, private mentoring support for skills, strategies, and challenges.
One-on-one sessions will be conducted via Microsoft Teams.
This is a flexible provision suited to the needs of each individual.
