Who is this for?
The Maths Teacher Development Groups (MTDGs) are for Teachers of post-16 GCSE re-sits & Functional Skills maths, based in colleges & other post-16 settings.
Training aim
The aim is to support teachers to explore and apply evidence-based approaches to maths teaching and learning, based on themes identified by the CfEM project. Sessions are facilitated by a national expert, with additional input from CfEM centres.
There are four themes to choose from (click on the links near the top of the page for more information), each comprising three online sessions approximately one month apart, followed by a final dissemination event. Participants are encouraged to attend all four sessions of their chosen theme to gain maximum value, but participants who just want to dip in and out of the themes are also welcome.
Outcomes
Participants will:
• Explore evidence-based approaches to maths teaching and learning around a specific pedagogical theme
• Work collaboratively to discuss how these approaches might be adapted and applied within individual settings
• Try out the approaches in practice and report back to the group
• Share their findings at a national dissemination event
Length
For each CPD topic:
Session 1: 2.5 hours
Session 2: 1.5 hours
Session 3: 1.5 hours
Session 4: Joint practice development dissemination day
Entry Requirements
Participants should be teaching GCSE or Functional Skills maths in a post-16 setting.
