This interactive course will support all practitioners delivering substantial maths content in how approaches to planning can support deeper learning and improve learner engagement. It will include how the use of assessment, feedback, and resources can be maximised and enable participants to gain a greater awareness of how they put together a lesson plan impacts on the learning that does or does not take place.

Who is this for?

This course is designed for new and experienced education practitioners involved in teaching Functional Skills Maths or GCSE maths to post-16 learners. It is also relevant to those  delivering non-regulated maths courses within the Further Education and Skills sector.   

 

Training aim

To equip participants with the knowledge and strategies to plan and deliver inclusive, effective maths lessons that promote Mastery, and support both cognitive and affective development. Participants will explore how to effectively utilise in-lesson assessment and feedback, and make optimal use of resources to maximise learner progress.

 

Note:  These courses are designed to be interactive and model best practice using resources and activities tailored for both a digital and physical learning environment. Therefore, we do not offer recordings of sessions, however, we do share all materials following the course's completion.

 

Outcomes

On this course you will:

  • Explore the principles of inclusive planning.
  • Consider how a Mastery approach can be used to connect topics and reduce cognitive load
  • Explore the components of an effective lesson
  • Explore strategies for effective in-lesson assessment and feedback
  • Identify how resources can be used to maximise progress within lessons

Length

In-house delivery: 2.5 hours face-to-face or online sessions.

Open delivery: 2 hour online session. 

Entry Requirements

  • Employment in a teaching/training/support role in the post-16 further education and skills sector
  • Currently delivering Functional Skills, GCSE or non-regulated maths courses, or expecting to soon
