Who is this for?

This course is for those new to teaching, preparing to teach as well as established maths teachers and other practitioners delivering GCSE maths and Functional Skills maths in the Further Education and Training sector.  

 

 

Training aim

This course aims to develop teacher's understanding of:  

  • The Teaching for Mastery Key Principles for FE  
  • How exemplar resources and lessons have been designed and how they should be used  
  • How they might adapt their own teaching so that it becomes more aligned with Teaching for Mastery approaches.  

Note:  These courses are designed to be interactive and model best practice using resources and activities tailored for both a digital and physical learning environment. Therefore, we do not offer recordings of sessions, however, we do share all materials following the course's completion.

Outcomes

By the end of the course, you will have the knowledge and confidence to:  

  • Use Teaching for Mastery approaches in their own classrooms  
  • Develop a toolkit of strategies to overcome learners' negative attitudes, so that they become more resilient maths learners  
  • Embrace new ways of working which respond to gaps in learners' skills and understanding  
  • Adopt mastery teaching approaches which deepen learners' understanding of key concepts and improve learners' mathematical reasoning and problem solving

Length

10 online sessions, two hours each, once a week for 10 weeks. A total of 20 hours plus independent study in between facilitated sessions.  

 

Entry Requirements

  • Interest to teach maths in post-16 settings
  • Currently delivering Functional Skills or GCSE maths or expecting to soon.
