Who is this for?
Communities of practice bring together people with a shared purpose and interest and provide space to hear and learn from colleagues, to share ideas and to problem solve together.
These communities of practice are for leaders, managers and practitioners in adult education working with learners with learning difficulties and diabilities. They will focus on partnership working with external organisations in your local area - how you establish partnerships, how you make them work and what benefits can be accrued for learners, staff and your organisation.
Partnerships with external organisation can be challenging as well as hugely beneficial for learners and your organisation. Communities of practice can be a good way to get new ideas and share solutions to the challenges you may face in partnership working.
Training aim
Communities of practice are a facilitated space to share and learn from colleagues doing similar work to you, so they are grounded in real and everyday challenges and opportunities. Participants are able to take away from sessions ideas and solutions that they can apply to their own locality.
Each community of practice will explore a particular aspect of partnership working.
- Session 1 (10/02/25) will be led by Adult Education, Dorset will look at using partnerships to create a demand-led offer and so increase partipation.
- Session 2 (24/02/25) will be led by Adult and Community Learning, Essex and explore how partnerships has created provsion that improves the lives of learners with learning difficulties and disabilities.
- Session 3 (10/03/25) will be led by City Lit, London and will show case their extraordinary partnerships that have raised aspirations and smashed assumptions about what learners with learning difficulties can achieve.
Outcomes
You will have the knowledge and confidence to:
- Identify ways to develop your existing provision to meet learners needs and create aspirational opportunities.
- Understand the challenges of partnership working and how to find workable solutions.
- Learn about the benefits you can accrue from partnership working for learners, staff and your organisation.
- Be realistic about how to build partnerships ( and how long it can take!) and how to ensure they are purposeful.

Each community of practice will be 1 hour.
