This two-part course equips practitioners with strategies that foster positive attitudes, resilience, and deeper engagement in maths learning. Through collaboration and practical activities, participants will explore key themes that enhance learner motivation and achievement in maths. 

Key topics covered include mindsets, the Growth Zone Model, the importance of struggle and mistakes, resilience, and building effective habits.

By combining theory with practical strategies, the course ensures participants leave with actionable insights to apply directly in their teaching.

Teachers of maths, maths managers, and those who support maths classes.

 

Training aim

This course will help you to support learners to value maths skills and investigate teaching strategies to support resilience building and encourage learners to engage.

Note:  These courses are designed to be interactive and model best practice using resources and activities tailored for both a digital and physical learning environment. Therefore, we do not offer recordings of sessions, however, we do share all materials following the course's completion.

  • To understand why FE/ skills sector maths learners are often unwilling to engage and persevere with learning maths
  • To explore strategies to engage learners, address negative attitudes to maths and build resilience
  • To reflect on implications for classroom practice

Length

This 2-part course is 4/5 hours.

  • Open format: 2 x 2 hour sessions 
  • In-house format: 2 x 2.5 hour sessions 

Entry Requirements

Entry requirements  

  • Experience teaching or supporting maths at the post-16 level, including GCSE, Functional Skills Maths or unregulated maths courses. 
  • Employment in a teaching/training /managing role in the post-16 education and training sector
  • Currently delivering or supporting Maths or expecting to soon
