Learners may wonder why they need 'English' in their careers and vocational studies, yet communication skills are some of the most valued by employers. This two part session will focus on the importance of building vocabulary to build learner confidence alongside how to improve communication skills for learners more broadly.

Who is this for?
Teachers and support staff, as well as managers, working with learners studying vocational programmes and apprentices.
Training aim
To improve the confidence and communication skills of learners on vocational programmes.
Outcomes
Session 1
- Discuss the importance of relevant subject vocabulary for the vocational classroom and the workplace
- Evaluate how vocabulary can improve learners’ engagement and understanding of new words
- Explore strategies to assess learners’ understanding of new vocabulary in their reading, writing and communication.
Session 2
- Consider methods to improve learners’ confidence in their communication skills
- Look at ways to better engage learners with written texts
- Explore strategies to improve spelling accuracy and overall writing competence.
Length
2 x 2 hour sessions, or 1 day face to face
