Training for FE Teacher Trainers

The evidence-based programme will be facilitated by expert practitioners in FE ITE from Sheffield Institute of Education and a large FE college. Topics covered include: - teacher educators and how teachers learn - feedback and feed forward - developing trainee teachers' English and maths skills - using technology to enhance learning - developing your observation skills. - designing the ITE curriculum - working with mentors - developing teachers' critical reflective skills.

Who is this course for?

Teacher educators, mentors or subject learning coaches involved in the development of new teachers, who are working in a sixth form college, further education college, offender learning setting, private training provider or other lifelong learning setting.

Training aim

To reflect on your practice as a teacher educator, develop your skills in key areas, and expand your professional network.  To share best practice with others in order to find out what does and doesn't work.


Outcomes

You will have the knowledge and confidence to: 

  • experiment with new, evidence-based approaches to teacher education
  • more effectively support new and current teachers in your setting
  • develop an effective and innovative ITE curriculum from an awarding body specification
  • provide feedback that is effective, supportive and tailored to how teachers learn.

The outcomes of these pilot projects will feed into the development of a set of professional standards for FE ITE. 

Length of the course

The course will take place over four days.

Each day will run from 9.30 - 3.30 and refreshments will be provided. You will be able to claim travel expenses of up to £100 (on completion of a claim form and provision of receipts) to support your attendance at sessions.

Entry Requirements

Teacher trainers with teaching qualifications possibly including those involved with staff development, mentoring, coaching or supporting new and current staff.
