SET for Teaching Success - December Residential 2019

This is a two day residential course for all trainees on the 'SET for Teaching Success' programme and is the first opportunity for trainees to meet with others on the programme from across the country. It will enable the trainees to discuss their initial teacher training, learn more about Professional Standards for FE Teachers developed by the ETF .Trainees will develop a professional network of support from across the country and share their experiences.

Who is this for?

This course is open to all trainees on the SET for Teaching Success programme who started their Initial Teacher Training (ITE) course in 2019.

Training aim

Improve your understanding of the programme in relation to the ETF suite of support programmes and projects.

  • Develop support structures to enhance your SET Initial Teaching Training.
  • Promote professionalism and provide lots of practical ideas, opportunities for knowledge exchange and the sharing of resources that have had proven impact on learning.

Outcomes

You will have the knowledge and confidence to:

  • know which skills and pedagogical principles are most important in meeting current quality and policy expectations
  • consider important principles of learning
  • understand and practice the fundamental interpersonal skills
  • encourage learner motivation and engagement
  • understand the new Ofsted Education Inspection Framework
  • Know how to curate learning resources using the National STEM Centre learning facilities
  • identify the wider policy drivers, their impact on strategy planning and ultimately on teaching and learning
  • understand and reflect on positive workplace practices review the Professional Teaching Standards.

Length

Two day course:

Day 1 09:00 for 09:30 start - 16:15 followed by dinner and overnight accommodation at Franklin House 2 minutes walk from the National STEM Learning Centre

Day 2 08:45 for 09:15 start - 15:45

Entry Requirements

To get the most out of the course you will need to consider the programme to date:

  • what issues you want to cover , reflect on your experience to date and how you can improve going forward,
  • what support mechanisms will help you to succeed in the course and achieve the SET ITE qualification.

You will also need to prepare a short resume (3 mins max) to explain the area of work that you do, so that other people will clearly understand what you do.
