Supported internships: working with employers and the community (Code: C0805)

We will discuss what authentic inclusion for employers really looks like through our supported internship model.

Who is this for?

Leaders, Heads, Managers, Teachers, Tutors and Support staff.  

Training aim

We will look at recent research and findings into the effectiveness of supported Internships and share how we have taken this forward. We will also look at the Department for Education's effective practice model of supported internships and what this means for us.

Outcomes

We will share effective practice on how to work with employers and share what employers really want. We will share our learner successes into sustainable employment using our supported employment agency. We will also explore how to improve outcomes for learners with SEND by preparing them for adulthood and to meaningful employment.

We will guide you if you are thinking of setting up a supported internship to consider:

  • What makes an excellent internship?
  • Support for the employer and partnership working.
  • Staffing requirements.
  • On and off the job training for learners.
  • Facilities and equipment.
  • Funding model and approaches.
