FE Women's Voices 1: Using your voice with impact (Code: C0848)

One of three sessions developed in response to feedback from women, especially women of Black (African, Caribbean, Black British) Asian, mixed, and minority ethnic heritage, who took part in our 2020 ETF/WLN Women Up course, about how women's voices are 'heard' in the workplace. Develop skills to shape and influence conversations, particularly those that can be difficult. Learn how to use your voice for impact and how to support others to do the same.

Session 1
Date: 23/09/2020 13:35 - 14:45

Who is this for?

This topic is important to all women working in FE, so we are opening this session up to every woman who wishes to join, and we have made it free.

Training aim

To

  • Support presence, voice, visibility and progression for women who are under-represented in FE leadership.
  • Tackle the systemic bias in our organisations that force women to temper and 'police' our voices.
  • Recognise the role identity and belonging play shaping our experiences of being silenced or heard in FE.
  • Make it harder for our institutions to dismiss our voices or ignore our issues.
  • Raise all women's voices in FE.

Outcomes

You will have the knowledge and confidence to:

  • Analyse how and why women's voices get silenced in our FE workplaces.
  • Explore how what gets talked about, and how it gets talked about, is essential to effective communication.
  • Identify ways to get your voice heard.
  • Initiate and respond to challenging conversations at all levels-including challenging senior managers to respond and implement change.
  • Combat cynicism that 'there's nothing I/we can do about it' in your organisation/team.

Length

One hour.

We will open the Zoom room at 13.35 (to socialise/sort out any technical problems) for a prompt 13.45 start and ending at 14.45 hours. We always remain for another 10 minutes afterwards for any 1:1 questions/conversations.

Entry Requirements

Open to every woman working in FE, including women governors.

We want everyone to enjoy and have full access to this online session. Please do not be offended if we ask you to help us do so, and tell us when you book if you have any specific online accessibility requirements we need to know about. If you notice something we've missed or made difficult for you or others, please say, and we will do everything we can to make it right.
