CfEM Module 5: Data processing and analysis (Code: C0861)
The fifth of six modules for all teachers involved in Action Research projects being conducted by Centres for Excellence in Mathematics (CfEMs) and network partners.
This module starts with definitions of data processing and data analysis and the stages typically involved in each. It provides plenty of opportunities to practice aspects of advanced analysis on 'mock' or real data. Quality issues will be discussed throughout.
Who is this for?
All staff participating in CfEM action research projects during 2020-2021.
Module 5 will run twice. We recommend you book on the same module as your action research group (ARG) so you can work together in the live Zoom session.
To build knowledge and confidence in systematic approaches to processing and analysing data.
- To increase your understanding of the main types of data processing and data analysis
- Be secure in your own knowledge of practical steps required to process (manipulate) and analyse (critically interrogate) data in order to accurately represent the data collected.
- To be able to avoid weaknesses in the evidence-base you help produce.
This is a blended three hour module.
Part 1 is asynchronous (approx. 30 mins)
It is designed so you can work individually on specific tasks.
Part 2 is a live webinar (1.5 hours)
You will have an opportunity to share and discuss your reflections from part 1 with your ARG in the live webinar, via breakout rooms, as well as learn from and with the facilitators.
Part 3 is asynchronous (approx 60 mins)
You will need to work on/offline with your ARG to apply some of what you have learnt. Your action research lead will record summary notes from your project team in the Data Processing and Analysis tab of your Action Research Excel Workbook.
