Who is this for?

This session is for you if you are interested in coaching and mentoring - either providing or receiving it - and how to use it as a means to diversify leadership, amplify different voices and create brave spaces in which women support, or are supported by, other women.

As women, we often informally coach and mentor others within our busy lives without fully acknowledging what we are doing and the impact we are having on others. Sometimes we are fortunate to have more recognised and formal opportunities.

During this session, we will explore whether and how we can use these informal and formal moments to support bravery, strength, and growth and to lead change.

Training aim

Coaching and mentoring is often thought of being about creating safe spaces to develop but taking our lead from Charity So White we want to explore the concept of creating brave spaces in which to work alongside each other to bring about growth and change.

  • Understand how coaching and mentoring can support leadership development and finding your authentic leadership voice.
  • Explore why creating brave spaces, not safe spaces, in which we work side by side may be critical to achieving anti-racist, anti-sexist diversity of leadership in FE, skills and lifelong learning.
  • Identify how we use coaching and mentoring - both formally and informally-to diversify leadership and amplify different women's voices.

You will have the knowledge and confidence to:

  • Understand coaching and mentoring through an intersectional lens and how it can support diversity and inclusion.
  • Explore why, if we want to stop institutional sexism and racism, it's time to create brave spaces where we learn and work alongside each other-rather than safe spaces that can prevent us making the changes that are needed.
  • Understand how we can use formal and informal coaching and mentoring to diversify leadership and amplify different voices.

One hour:

  • We open our Zoom room at 13.35 - to socialise/sort out any technical problems .
  • We start promptly at 13.45
  • We finish at 14,45
  • We remain for another 10 minutes afterwards for any 1:1 questions/conversations

This is an interactive live discussion, so it's important to join us on the day. WLN may record the session (subject to everyone involved being happy for us to do so), but the ETF will not publish the recording.
