The session will have a key focus on the impacts of mental health and wellbeing for learners and staff in the Covid FE landscape. There will be an opportunity to reflect upon the first term of the 20/21 academic year and identify common themes that have arisen. A toolbox of resources will be shared that embraces both face to face and digital opportunities.

  2. Specific subject anxiety - strategies to support academic anxiety
  3. Emotional identity, language and schemas- how these make up the learning persona

As part of Weston College's Centres for Excellence in SEND 'People' focused program, this webinar will share practical examples of how managers, leaders, employers and employees can support and promote good mental health and wellbeing and reduce anxiety. Information and examples will include how to remain connected during a time of social isolation, both of which are well recognised to heighten feelings of isolation, anxiety, low mood and other mental health problems.

Modelling and abstraction

Research tells us that some mathematical topics can be difficult to visualise and consider conceptually. Modelling mathematics aids understanding and helps scaffold learners into better reasoning and problem solving skills. This course explores Concrete, Abstract and Pictorial (CAP) representations that support deep learning and a better understanding of algebraic skills, geometric connections and number work, including conversions. It is helpful for maths study and for everyday life and work.

Money maths

Money makes the world go around! Being sensitive to learners' funds of knowledge can help them switch from informal to formal numeracy practices and enable them to respond to the demands of formal assessments more effectively.

This course introduces contextual materials and activities to develop learners' money maths abilities. It will support you to plan differentiated, inclusive money maths sessions. You will consider how to build on the knowledge and understanding that learners bring to the maths classroom to motivate them and encourage them to understand the value of maths.
