This interactive two-part course supports Functional Skills Maths practitioners in developing effective planning strategies that promote deeper learning and enhance learner engagement. Participants will explore strategies for covering a large volume of content in a short amount of time while ensuring that lessons are accessible to a range of learning profiles and needs. The course will support practitioners to gain a deeper understanding of how the design of a scheme of work, lesson, or activity influences the depth and quality of learning that takes place.

This course is designed for new and experienced education practitioners involved in teaching Functional Skills Maths to post-16 learners.
Training aim
To equip participants with the knowledge and strategies to plan and deliver an inclusive and effective Functional Skills Maths programme.
Note: These courses are designed to be interactive and model best practice using resources and activities tailored for both a digital and physical learning environment. Therefore, we do not offer recordings of sessions, however, we do share all materials following the course's completion.

- Explore the principles of inclusive planning.
- Consider how a Mastery approach can be used to connect topics and reduce cognitive load
- Explore the components of an effective Functional Skills Maths lesson
- Explore strategies for effective in-lesson assessment and feedback
- Identify how resources can be used to maximise progress within lessons
Length
In-house delivery: 2 x 2.5 hours face-to-face or online sessions.
Open delivery: 2 x 2 hour online sessions.
Entry Requirements
- Employment in a teaching/training/support role in the post-16 further education and skills sector
- Currently delivering Functional Skills, or non-regulated maths courses, or expecting to soon
