Integrating Maths into vocational courses (Code: C1522)

Presenting maths in a contextualised or embedded way increases motivation and improves learning.

This interactive course will support technical and vocational tutors, trainers, and assessors to identify naturally occurring opportunities to develop learners' maths skills needed to successfully complete their study programme, apprenticeship, or vocational or technical course. A range of resources and best practice approaches will be discussed.

Who is this for?

This course is primarily for practitioners in the Further Education and Training sector involved with teaching maths as part of a vocational or technical course. In particular, it will be useful for vocational tutors or assessors who want to embed maths into other teaching.

Training aim

The aim is to provide you with a range of strategies and activities to support vocational and technical learners in developing their understanding and confidence in using maths.

Outcomes

On this course you will:

  • examine strategies for engaging learners in the development of their maths skills
  • identify naturally occurring maths learning opportunities and explore how to maximise these
  • compare task led and criterion led mapping.
