Creating positive employment outcomes for young people with SEND through Supported Internships (Code: C1581)
This half-day event will be hosted by Brooklyn Hotel, Manchester on 31 January 2023 and will include:
- Opportunities for networking
- Structured opportunities to network/ ask questions/ share effective practice
- A range of speakers who are keen to share their experiences, good practice and lessons learned. These will include:
- Employers who have benefitted from providing opportunities for SEND young people
- Young people with SEND who have successfully gained and sustained paid employment
- Supported Internship colleagues

Training aim
Through this event, we will:
- Share learning and effective practice in those not involved in Supported Internships
- Provide learning opportunities for those involved to further develop their model
- Engage employers of all sizes including SMEs across a range of sectors
- Promote and create positive and aspirational employment outcomes for young people with SEND
- Seek to identify any gaps and areas of support relating to long term sustainable employment outcomes
- Introduce the concept of a Supported Internship pledge and encourage sign up to a local pledge
Outcomes
Those attending this event will be able to:
- Recognise the different models of Supported Internships and ways they can get involved
- Understand the different ways that employers can benefit from Supported Internships
- Have a better understanding of the support available to young people with SEND and employers
- Recognise the value of of Supported Internships as a pathway to transition from education into employment
