Specialist Status in Education for Sustainable Development (Code: C1815)

The SSESD eligibility criteria are designed to be as inclusive as possible; it’s not just ringfenced to teaching staff. This recognises the breadth of different ways people can develop and demonstrate their ESD expertise. All applicants must meet the elibiligy criteria. See Entry Requirements.

The overall aim of the SSESD process is to validate current expert knowledge, skills, and behaviours within educational settings in the FE and Skills sector.

There are no learning outcomes aims, this is a validation process. Step 3 of the validation process has an optional element where you may investigate new topics and further enhance your knowledge and understanding. 

 12 weeks (approximately 25-30hrs)

Delegates must:

•  Be working in an educational or training setting, either on a paid or voluntary basis.
• Demonstrate organisational support.
• Show effective practice and application of ESD in an educational environment.*
•  Have opportunities to broaden advanced knowledge, skills and behaviours related to ESD policy and practice at the level of an expert practitioner to continue demonstrating the most effective practice in your own setting**
• Evidence the SSESD process's impact on your practice, learners, colleagues, or organisation based on the programme's nine competencies in the programme framework.

*The SSESD validates existing advanced ESD knowledge, skills, and practices but does not include learning material.

**The SSESD is not suitable for those seeking an introductory programme to ESD. Applicants currently building knowledge and skills (current practice and application of ESD) in ESD may need to undertake CPD prior to registering for SSESD.
