This blended course - which features 2 taught sessions, online activities and helpful resources - explores education for sustainable development (ESD). It’ll prompt you to consider how ESD links to your role, and the wider impact you can have in the further education (FE) and skills sector. You’ll look at the United Nation’s (UN’s) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ‘green jobs’ and the skills needed to fulfil these future roles. You’ll consider how you can prepare learners to progress to sustainable careers and for a sustainable future.

Who is this for?

This course is designed for educators, sustainability leaders and professional service staff within the further education and skills sector  who are interested in sustainability and want to explore how this can be embedded or promoted within their roles and organisations.  

Training aim

To explore ideas and approaches to ESD and how these relate to our roles in the FES sector through:

1. Getting started with ESD – This session introduces the topic of sustainable development and the United Nation’s (UN’s) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

You will connect sustainable development to your role - and investigate some approaches to sustainable development across your organisation and the wider sector. 

2. Skills for the green transformation - This session introduces ‘green jobs’ and explores the skills needed to fulfil these future roles. You’ll consider how you can prepare your

By the end of this course, you will have the knowledge and confidence to:  

  • Recognise the importance of education for sustainable development (ESD), how it connects to your role and what you can do to make sustainability more visible, relevant and impactful
  • Explore ‘green skills’ and how these can be developed in preparation for a sustainable future and a changing labour market.
