This blended course includes 2 introductory modules from our 'Getting started with ESD' course and an additional 2 live online sessions, online activities and helpful resources that explore how to embed education for sustainable development (ESD) in your curricula. You’ll relate the United Nation’s (UN’s) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to your curriculum area and consider a range of pedagogical approaches and ideas - including inquiry-based approaches, practical approaches for embedding ESD in to your teaching & learning.

Who is this for?

This course is designed for teachers and tutors working in FE and Skills settings and involved in the planning and delivery of teaching and learning, and are wanting to explore how this can be embedded or promoted within their roles within the FE and Skills sector.  

Training aim

To explore ideas and approaches to ESD through:   

  1. Getting started with ESD -This session introduces the topic of sustainable development and the UN’s SDGs. You will connect sustainable development to your role - and investigate some approaches to sustainable development across your organisation and the wider sector.
  2. Skills for the green transformation - This session introduces ‘green jobs’ and explores the skills needed to fulfil these future roles. 
  3. Embedding ESD in teaching and learning - This session explores how the core concepts of sustainability can be applied to different subject specialisms and consider why it is important to embed ESD into your curriculum.
  4. Embedding ESD with an inquiry-based approach explores how these pedagogical approaches can be utilised to relate the UN Sustainability goals to a subject and considers how learners can be supported to develop ESD knowledge, skills and behaviours.   

Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will have the knowledge and confidence to:

  • Consider how to apply sustainability concepts and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals to your curriculum - and to your wider role.
  • Explore inquiry-based approaches and other practical ideas for embedding ESD in your teaching and learning.
