Money maths (Code: C1501)

This course introduces contextual materials and activities to develop learners' money maths abilities. It will support you to plan differentiated, inclusive money maths sessions. You will consider how to build on the knowledge and understanding that learners bring to the maths classroom to motivate them and encourage them to understand the value of maths.

Who is this for?

This course is for both GCSE and Functional Skills maths practitioners in the Further Education and Training sector. It may also be helpful for vocational practitioners working in any context which uses money; this might include invoicing, currency exchange, pricing up of jobs or making purchases.

Training aim

To provide you with opportunities to discuss how to support learners to understand money transactions in order to strengthen learners understanding of place value, percentages, and the technical vocabulary around money.

Outcomes

On the course, you will:

  • consider how money maths can be used to support learners' interest in maths
  • investigate resources and consider how they might be used in your teaching
  • plan differentiated, inclusive money maths sessions, which build on learners' lives and maths numeracy practices
  • consider how money maths activities may be used or adapted to support your learner's general maths skills
