Governance Professionals Qualification (Code: C1579)
BackThe Governance Professionals’ Qualifications have been developed for those working specifically within the further education and 6 th form college sector. These qualifications were designed by the Institute of Directors (IoD), in partnership with Department for Education (DfE) and the Education Training Foundation (ETF). The ETF and IoD worked closely with the Association of Colleges (AOC) and members of the National Governance Professionals’ Group (NGPG) and other key stakeholders in the sector to develop these qualifications.

Who is this for?
The qualifications are for anyone in a governance role within the sector. Please note that the three levels of qualification are not designed to map perfectly onto the three competency levels in the framework. You may refer to the breakdown of the three levels and the competency framework to understand the level you should enter at. Please find more information and the assessment criteria on our webpage here.
We are currently offering a exemptions policy that recognises experience and other qualifications that apply to the Award and Cert of the qualifications. This policy provides details of the IoD exemptions for the relevant qualifications (Award and Certificate). No exemptions will be given for the Diploma. This policy can be viewed here.

Assessed via Multiple Choice Examination
2. Certificate for Further Education Governance Professionals (Cert FEGP)
Assessed via a Portfolio of Evidence covering all criteria in the units
3. Diploma for Further Education Governance Professionals (Dip FEGP)

Outcomes
Please note that the qualification is not a course; undertaking the qualification(s) will provide participants with an accreditation that demonstrates their skills and expertise gained as a governance professional within the sector. Many of the competencies within the frameworks are transferable to other sectors and will further support participants in their professional development and career progression.

Length
Registration will continue to be available to prospective candidates throughout 2024, until end of March 2025.
- Award FEGP – assessment (Multiple Choice Examination) will take place online.
- Cert FEGP – Individual deadlines to submit the Portfolio of Evidence will be scheduled with the IoD assessment team.
- Dip FEGP - Once registered, participants will schedule their 3 stage Professional Discussion with the IoD assessment team.
Please note that the dates featured on the booking options for this page are the deadline for individuals to have registered and is not an event, examination or assessment date. The assessment process will be individually set by the IoD with participants.
Entry Requirements
1. Award for Further Education Governance Professionals (Award FEGP)
- Currently employed as a governance professional by a UK Further Education or Sixth Form College Corporation
2. Certificate for Further Education Governance Professionals (Cert FEGP)
- Currently employed as a governance professional by a UK Further Education or Sixth Form College Corporation
- Completed or been awarded an exemption from the IOD Award for Further Education Governance Professionals (Award FEPG).
3. Diploma for Further Education Governance Professionals (Dip FEGP)
- Currently employed as a governance professional by a UK Further Education or Sixth Form College Corporation
- Been employed as a Governance Professional for at least 5 years with a minimum of 3 years in Further Education
- Completed or been awarded an exemption from the IOD Award for Further Education Governance Professionals (Award FEPG).
