The Alternative Classroom outside of the college walls working in partnership with a charity (Uncle Paul's Chilli Farm) (Code: C1753)

Working in partnership with Uncle Paul’s Chilli Charity our NEET learners have the opportunity to re-engage in learning opportunities in a non-traditional school environment, access pre-employment training from ‘seed to table’ within a real working environment. Access to the Alternative Classroom, has provided experiential learning opportunities whereby learners can understand their transferable skills, develop confidence in their abilities and begin to make informed choices regarding their future progression.

Training aim

By participating in this event, you will:

  • Explore how to develop innovative and high-quality individualised programmes for learners who have previously had difficulties in accessing education and have experienced a range of barriers within their learning.
  • Explore strategies to meet the changing needs of learners with SEND developing specialist provision within the General Further Education College
  • Explore new initiatives and best practice in SEND to prepare learners for employment and independence.
  • Explore resources for learners with autism that provide a ‘dual curriculum’ through Animal Assisted learning.

Outcomes

As a result of participating in this event the delegate will have an opportunity to discuss best practice and explore alternative solutions to challenges within the SEND sector.

Length

4 hour workshop between 10:00-15:00 which will include lunch. Participants can travel independently to the farm in North Somerset or a college minibus will be provided to transport from Weston College to Butcombe Farm at 09:15am and returning to Weston College at 4pm.
