Fractions, Decimals, Percentages: Creating Connections, Building Confidence (Code: C1835)

Focusing on fractions, decimals, percentages, and place value, this course supports teachers to help learners develop a solid conceptual understanding of parts of a whole. Teachers will explore both how learners develop meaning around these topics, as well as strategies grounded in Mastery principles that support learners to develop confidence in these critical areas. Strategies explored include using concrete resources and bar models to highlight underlying mathematical structure and make connections between the topics, as well as using misconceptions to build on prior learning.

  • Support teachers in creating a solid foundation for all learners in fractions, decimals, percentages and place value.
  • Equip teachers with effective Mastery-informed teaching strategies that address common misconceptions and promote deep mathematical understanding of both number and proportional reasoning.
  • Encourage reflective practice to help teachers assess and improve their instructional approaches in teaching these key concepts.

Note:  These courses are designed to be interactive and model best practice using resources and activities tailored for both a digital and physical learning environment. Therefore, we do not offer recordings of sessions, however, we do share all materials following the course's completion.
