25/03/2019 @ Nottingham - Two day Prevent duty for safeguarding officers
A two day intensive course to provide training in the requirements of the Prevent duty including: the referral process; identifying extremism; challenging extremism and hate speech.
This will also cover keeping learners and staff safe online and promoting and exemplifying British values. The course is run by Selina Stewart, the Prevent lead at ETF and Polly Harrow, student services manager at Kirklees College and Chair of NAMSS.
26/02/2019 @ Nottingham - Lesson observation & learning walks: improving learning in maths & English (Central)
The direct observation of teaching has for too long been associated with performance management alone, when it has a vital role to play in developing and improving it too. This practical one-day course will rigorously dissect what best practice means in maths and English and look in depth at how observations can be used developmentally by managers and colleagues to improve the teaching of maths and English - both when delivered in standalone lessons and when embedded into vocational learning.
26/02/2019 @ Cheltenham - Knowledge module: maximising potential - (The Essential SEND Managers' Programme)
The 'Maximising Potential' module is led by Davina Jones from National Star, a UK charity specialising in working with people with disabilities and their supporters to challenge stereotypes, raise aspirations and change attitudes. The module is a designed to support you to develop essential knowledge and skills. These will enable you to meet the statutory duties and provide a personalised learning experience for young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
26/02/2019 @ Online - Using phonics-based teaching at Entry Level - an introductory webinar
The webinar aims to introduce the CPD programme developed to support Functional English practitioners in exploring phonics-based teaching approaches at Entry Levels. It provides an opportunity to discuss the benefits and challenges of using such approaches with post 16 learners and explores some of the key principles that underpin the teaching strategies covered in the one day courses.

As part of the wider agenda to develop FE governance, this programme of regional events aims to support board members and senior leaders to improve board effectiveness and overall provider performance. These events are supported by the Education and Training Foundation, facilitated by Association of Colleges and are free to attend.

The workshop will include a discussion on operating in a climate of ever-changing emphasis and influence from government, changing local and national circumstances, and evolving competition and partnerships alike. It will also explore the governance roles and responsibilities, how boards can monitor progress and the crucial elements of information that a board required to enable effective monitoring and challenge.
